Therefore, I am announcing my triumphant return to blogging!!! I will not post that often, unless people actually leave comments so I know that they are actually being read.

So, tomorrow I leave for nationals and I am fucking psyched broooooooo's. Going in as the number 2 seed kind of puts alot of pressure on us, especially when we have the returning national champions and world's bronze medalist Shazaam in our pool, along with our sectional/regional/year long rival Peppermint Butt Bomb in our pool. But I'm not gonna be too worried about any of the games, we have a deep team and I'm confident in every player that we have. I just want to get to Florida, relax, have fun, and play some awesome games. Obviously I would love to win it all, or make finals, but I would like to at least make semi finals.

My following goal would be to trade the extra jerseys I bought for some bomb ass ones. I'm going to have to survery the scene every day and see what kind of jerseys are out there. I think the Bhodi ones are pretty cool, so many I'll try for one of those. My final goal is to get completely shit faced (if we don't make finals) in my penguin costume that I bought for Halloween. Then i would like to go out to the beach in the costume and hunt for sharks. Maybe build some sort of spear, go in the water sometime around midnight, while drunk, in a giant foam penguin outfit and hunt for sharks. Sounds like a good idea to me.

This is all Im going to write for now, if I know people are reading I will create more in depth, awesomer posts.

Becknasty

Nearing the end

So regionals has come and gone and I was definately pleased with how well it went. We came out flat early saturday morning against ISUC, and just couldn't really get things going, we got walloped in that game. Then played a pretty easy game against Grinell, which resulted quickly into us punting and putting on a zone that they couldn't do anything against, we win that one easily.

Then we get our next game against Marquette, I've been wanting to play those guys all year long. Their stud Mikail (#8) has some pretty sick throws, and since it was still pretty windy out we ran a box and one on him. Putting our fastest, best defenders on him throughout the game. He made some good throws but our boys shut him down and got him frustrated, with him out of the way the Marquette O really couldn't do much. We win this game by quite a few as well.

Winona State was our next opponent and it seemed like this was gonna be a great game from the start. We started off strong and they bounced back after a timeout and take a lead at half by a few. We keep battling and keep it close throughout the entire second half and we were down 14-11 and scored our O point to make it 14-12. While both teams were on the line the horn blew so the cap would go on after the point, we break them to take it to 14-13 and decide to play it out. We break them again to take it to 14-14 making it universe point. I really didn't want this to be my last college point ever and everyone on the line had their game faces on and was ready to fucking go. They work it down quite a ways then with the help of tight defense they turn it over. I pick it up on the sideline and break io backhand to creature who dishes it to Yossi. I make an upline cut for yossi and huck a backhand to Lane (who only played with one contact in that entire game) who caught it for the win 15-14. I was very happy with how I played that game, I think I threw the last 4 goals for our team. This was also the first time I had ever beaten Winona in my college career. And it meant we play Iowa in the morning who had just lost to the Hodags on universe point!!!

Sunday morning we warm up a little sloppy, but we are all pretty relaxed and not very nervous. We play tight lines at the beginning of the game and go up strong 4-1 on them. They take a timeout and score on O, but they keep running a zone on us which we swiftly just rip apart with scoobers, hammers, high releases and break throws. We give our starters a bit of a rest and let some of the young guns try to get us a break, which they do twice!! And I think we had 3 or 4 freshman on those D lines, I was very impressed with them in that game and all year long. We let up a little and take half 8-7. We get a three point lead later on in the game and just got a little tired at the end and end up losing 14-12. We fought hard but just got a little slow at the end and couldn't pull it out.

So Duluth finished the tournament 5th place, which was a nice change from finishing 15th last year. I'm very proud of this team for the awesome year that we have had, and I'm very thankful for a great group of guys. They opened their arms and welcomed me into their family from the moment I moved up here and I thank them for a great final year of college ultimate.

Sub Zero tryouts started this past weekend and I made the long trek down to the cities. Tryouts were the usual, warmups, few drills, scrimmage in games to 3, run some sprints, then scrimmage some more. I played pretty well, conservative, not alot of turns, ok D. There was alot of wind so it was kind of tough to really see anyone do really well. Sunday was kind of the same way, didn't turn it alot, had one nice huck and a few nice break throws but I didn't take too many risks.

I was talked to by a few captains afterwards telling me that I need to take some more shots downfield, which I understand. I know I'm a conservative player and would rather swing it than to try and force something in, but I understand where they are coming from in wanting me to do this. So, this weekend I plan on throwing downfield more and really trying to show off my throwing ability.

Duluth is coming to an end for me, thanks for the great memories.

David

Central Regionals 2008

My second regionals in my 5 year college ultimate career. I'm very happy to be going and being able to play with and against, some of the best players in the region. It's bracket play this weekend and we're going in seeded 8th, up against Iowa State in the first round. If we win that game then we make quarterfinals, which was my goal at the beginning of the year. If we make quarters, we play the Hodags, which would be fun considering I have never played them once in my college career. I plan on playing my hardest every game, and leaving everything I've got on the field, this will be my final college tournament and I'd like to leave my college ultimate career feeling good about how I played. I play as hard as I can for my teammates and for myself. I will not be intimidated by whoever guards me and know that I can play with anyone. I will play my ass of on defense and take the most difficult matchup I can. I will value the disc, and not commit turnovers. I am going to play the best tournament of my life.

good luck to all teams this weekend from every region.

David

Northwoods Sectionals 2k8

Well....it happened, I have my made regionals for the second time in my five year college career and I couldn't be happier. For all of you who play, or played on teams who never even had to worry about making regionals, don't take it for granted. So sectionals happened this past weekend in Maple Plain and here is a brief write up of what transpired....

Game 1: UMD vs St Thomas B

This game was never really going to be a game. UST-B was full of young guys who are new to the game, but at least they have a B team, its good experience for those guys who normally wouldn't get any playing time at sections. This game was under control the whole time and we got to get everyone PT, ended up rolling the game in about 45 minutes, UMD wins 15-0.

Game 2: UMD vs Hot Karls

The Carleton-B team, kind of, there's CUT, GOP, then Hot Karls. We had this game under control as well getting to rest our studs. They have some talent, and you can tell that some of them played on the fall CUT team because the kid who was marking me basically was trying to hug me on the mark and I called foul. I made a comment to him and he replied, "yeah I played on fall CUT they teach you to do that before stall 6". So now I have evidence that CUT tells their players to cheat. Not like I really care anyways. I think they score two points the whole game, after their first point they throw the disc as a blade about 50 feet in the air and let it hit the ground. Their second goal the guy spikes it at Smergs' feet, then throws it in the air. So Smergs, now pissed off, runs back to the line and goes let me score Im spiking the fuck out of it at someone. Smergs goes deep, Jeff puts it to him, and Smergs jumps in the air, catches the disc and immediately whips it at the feet of his trailing defender before he lands hahaha. It should have been a turnover but he argued his way out of it, then some kid on their team started yelling about don't spike it, and I screamed back calling them out on their shitty spikes and was promptly held back by LT. UMD wins 15-2.

Game 3: UMD vs. St Olaf

This was the biggest game of the year for us. St Olaf was the number one seed in our pool and 3 seed overall. We keep the lines tight and play our starting 7 line for alot of the game, Myself, Trosvig, Yossi at handles and Creature, Smergs, Lane and LT as cutters. We come out of the gates hot, easily scoring on O then breaking upwind. They score their O point but then we come back and score ours with ease, then break again going up 4-1. They take a timeout and recoop, and go on a three point run to tie it at 4's. We go up 5-4, they tie it up again, then we run three and take half 8-5. After the half they go on a little run again but we never trailed the entire game. The game was 12-10 with the soft cap on, add one, and we score our O point and win the game 13-10. Taking the one seed in our pool, putting us up against the two seed from pool D, GOP.

Quarters: UMD vs GOP

We have a history with this team, stemming back to last years sections where GOP went winless on Sunday after making semis, losing to UMD in the game to go to regions. And we have played them about 4 or 5 times this year beating them on all occasions. Some times the games tend to get a little chippy between us, and thats what happens at the beginning, and Sean from GOP calls everyone out telling everyone to chill out. I think they were just pissed that we started the game 5-0. We are able to open up the lines a bit and get some other people PT while our starting line gets to rest. We keep our starting line in every downwind point to make sure they are scored, and throw us in on a few D points here and there. But everyone else played their role great and ran off a few breaks on GOP, we eventually win easily 15-7 I think.

SUNDAY

Semis: UMD vs Minnesota

I think our team was kind of intimidated at first about playing a better opponent. We had great open looks for goals, and easy unders on the first few points of the game but we make drops or throws are just a little off and we can't convert. Minnesota goes up 7-0 to start, I think we relax a bit and are down at half 8-3. Once we were at this point we decided to save some of our starters again for our next time, we end up losing this one 6-15. But on a positive note I think we broke Minnesota's O line 4 times.

UMD vs St Johns

I'm already getting bored of writing, so we were in control of this game the entire time and never really let up. Throwing different types of d's at them, and taking their key players out of the game we easily win this one 15-6.

UMD vs Winona State

They come out playing well with their big athletic team. And we come out not playing so well, forcing dumb hucks and breaks rather than taking our time to dump and swing the disc. Fatigue is kind of hitting some of our cutters because silly drops are happening and we just aren't mentally in this game. We lose 5-15 or something like that.

4th place game: UMD vs St Johns

This game was pretty easy, just like the other one and we win 15-8, taking 4th in the section, and breaking seed by one.

It was a great weekend and I look forward to regionals this upcoming weekend. If I were to take a guess I would say we will be seeded somewhere between 9-12.

Becky

Day in the life of David Bequette: Part II

These details are written to the best of my knowledge....

4:05pm: More N-blox is played and I am on a roll, winning 19 of 20 games.

5:10pm: Roommates are getting home from class, time to make myself look like I've done something today. Drink more.

9:32pm: Rascal finds a Cheeto underneath the couch...crunching ensues for a good minute.

10:20pm: I'm officially drunk. I go to the fridge and get the big bag of ham my grandma gave me on easter, warm it up and start passing it around the room. I take a big hunk in my mouth and wrestle for it with the dog for a minute....dog wins.

11:00pm: We turn on the movie Hook. Dustin Hoffman's a badass, why can't I grow a mustache like that?....or facial hair in general.

12:00am-morning: Hazy at best. Time for new day to begin.

Welcome to my super exciting life up in bum fuck Minnesota.

David

A day in the life of David Bequette. Part I

Part I
8:15 am: My alarm on my phone goes off, time to wake up for my 9:00 am class. I look at my phone, turn it off, and think to myself "is it really worth it to get up and go? you already have a degree, I think sleeping would suit you better".

8:17 am: Turn on Sportscenter, watch some highlights, fall asleep.

10:21 am: Wake up look at my phone, think, hey it's 10:21 I'm supposed to be in my other class right now, well it's too late for that I'm gonna sleep some more. Continue to sleep through my 11:00 class as well.

12:42 pm: Wake up to greet the day!! Hello day, why are you so bright out? Fix the sheet over my window to block out any sign of life outside my room.

12:45 pm: Lay in bed, watch some more ESPN shows that just reiterate over and over and over. Mike and Mike, Jim Rome, 1st and 10, Around the Horn etc etc (Note, I didn't watch all those shows)

1:30 pm: I have arisen from my bed and moved to the computer chair. Check my UST email, nothing of consequence. Skip checking my UMD email for fear that my spanish teacher has sent me an angry email. Facebook is next, respond to messages, read my wall, snoop some profiles, oh hey so and so put up pictures from spring break...nice bikini pics.

2:08 pm: Still Facebooking, and RSDing, what's with RSD now a days, damn spam ruining everything. Email NIKE, to see if there is anything they can do to stop this nikeshoesshow.com company from spamming. I'm guessing....no.

2:19 pm: Play some N-blox evil addition, and I dominate as usual. I'm getting hungry, but that would force me to leave my comfy, warm domain and enter into the realm of light.

3:00 pm: Ok ok, now I'm getting really lazy. Oh wait, it's Friday who gives a fuck.

3:45 pm: Same old sports shit on tv, I have now heard that Greg Oden played in a pickup game at a health club on 8 different occasions. Is the NCAA on yet? Two more hours. fuck.

4:00 pm: Update the blog, let people finally realize how lazy I am this year, and now I shall attempt to leave the domain, shower, brush the chompers, and find nourishment.

Part II coming later today....

David

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://beckifiednation.blogspot.com/2008/03/day-in-life-of-david-bequette-part-i.html' title='A day in the life of David Bequette. Northwoods sectionals will be on April 12,13th this year in Maple Plain. This has been something I have been waiting for, for a long time. I haven't played in the series since my junior year when St. Thomas qualified for Regionals for the first time, last year I was out with the broken wrist. So, I've been waiting for this for a long time. Here is the list of teams I think will be at Sections.

Teams
1) MN-Duluth
2) MN-TC
3) Carleton
4) Winona St.
5) St. Olaf
6) Gustavus
7) St. Thomas
8) Macalester
9) Carleton-GOP
10) Hot Karls
11) St. Johns
12) Hamline
13) Mankato
14) St. Olaf-B
15) St. Thomas-B
16) Random Team

Here is my shot at seeding these teams...

Pool A: CUT, St Thomas, Mankato, Random Team
Pool B: MN-TC, GOP, Gustavus, St Thomas B
Pool C: Winona St, St Johns, Hot Karls, St Olaf B
Pool D: St Olaf, Duluth, Hamline, Macalester

which means the seedings would go as....
1) Cut
2)MN-TC
3) Winona St
4) St Olaf
5)Duluth
6) St Johns
7) GOP
8) St Thomas
9) Mankato
10) Gustavus
11) Hot Karls
12) Hamline
13) Macalester
14) St Olaf B
15) St Thomas B
16) Random Team

Then assuming our section gets six bids, which I wouldn't be surprised if we got 7 since we have a big section that is normally stronger than all the other sections here are my picks for regionals...

1) CUT
2) MN-TC
3) Winona St
4) Duluth
5) St Olaf
6) GOP/SJU

These are just my thoughts for now, we'll see what happens in two weeks.

David

New Rant...Fuck you Scott Baio

I love shitty VH1 celeb-reality shows and all my friends know it, and ya know what? I don't give a damn if they make fun of me for it. VH1 provides me with hours of entertainment. Whether it be laughing at washed up drug addicted celebrities, dirty drunk rocker skanks fighting, or dirty drunk sistah's fighting. Right now we've got Rock of Love 2 with Brett Michaels on Sunday nights, Flavor of Love 3 on Monday nights (yes there's a third) and Dr. Drew's celebrity rehab on Thursday nights. I would like to bust out Beckified's Shit-o-meter...The scale goes as follows...

5 Shits: Fucking badass show full of skanky ridiculousness
4 Shits: Pretty humorous, just a bunch of skanks
3 Shits: Mediocre celeb(s), dash of skank, hint of funny
2 Shits: You wasted an hour of my life that could have gone to Tetris
1 Shit: Scott Baio. which is the lowest denominator on earth.

Rock of Love 2: With Brett Michaels 4 Shits

Brett Michaels, I never listened to your music but you are a pretty funny old guy. Brett goes on to make out with every single girl by the end of the first show. Then for every challenge he some how gets all the girls to exploit themselves and do something skanky: pose for pinups, underwear football etc. etc. Brett makes hilarious comments in the interview room when he's by himself, mostly about how he wasn't listening to so and so talk, he was busy looking at her boobs. Good stuff. Lots of skanks being bitchy and fighting, but some of them are a little old and too rocker for my liking. Overall good times, I give you 4 shits.

My Fair Brady: Maybe Baby? 2 Shits

Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry. Who you ask? Exactly. Christopher Knight was on the Brady Bunch and....well....if you want to count an old VH1 show The Surreal Life. (which was gold). Adrianne Curry was on America's Next Top Model and the same Surreal Life as Christopher, hence how they met. I mean they're like 25 years apart it's not like they met at a P-Diddy party. You two suck. Chris has got an anger problem which doesn't lead to as much comedy as you might think, he doesn't even hit her!! Adrianne, you're a mongoloid, however you do get naked alot and you like girls. The show smells as bad as Strange Love, but worse. Here's some advice for the two of you, don't have a kid, please for the love of God don't let that child suffer as much as us.

Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant 1 Shit

I fucking hate you Scott Baio, more than Daniel Baldwin, more than Roger Clemens and equally the amount to Elisha Manning. You are a no talent ass clown who doesn't get work. You have a shitty reality tv show on VH1 that NOONE EVEN WATCHES. This should be a sign that you really have no business being in the entertainment industry. This, believe it or not, is the sequel to his first VH1 show Scott Baio is 45 and Single....how it didn't remain like that is beyond me. My vote is rape. SO, now he is engaged and his fiancee is having a baby. I feel awful for this kid, Baio should let Chris Knight and Adrianne adopt it before he takes care of it.
Full of awful jokes, awful writing, too much Scott, not enough hot wife, no skanks, no drunk fighting....waste of time. (side note I only saw the finale episode today while doing homework and I wanted to stab him)

Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew 5 Shits

Now this is the Mecca of crappy reality shows. First of all, we have Dr. Drew Pinsky from Loveline who is a board certified drug and addiction medicine badass. Doesn't take shit from anyone, smart guy, and has a good sense of humor. Anyways, its a reality show that takes place in a rehab center with a bunch of washed up celebs which can be found here, such as; Jaimee Foxworth, Seth "Shifty" Binzer, Ricco Rodriguez, Daniel Baldwin, Brigitte Nielsen, Chyna Doll, Mary Carey, and Jeff Conaway. These celebs deal with addiction problems to painkillers, alcohol, marijuana, crack, cocaine, among I'm sure a ton of other things!!
This show has it all, instead of drunk people fighting, it's sober porn star alcoholics fighting against sober UFC coke heads!! Then not to mention three of the women have done some sort of porn, so you got your skanks right there. Gooooood times. Definately will not miss this show on Thursday nights for anything. Alright, maybe free mcdonalds and captain morgan....but not most things.

Free Radio: You're not worth a rating on the shit-o-meter, because I haven't seen you and you don't look the least bit funny.
Salt-N-Pepa 2: Saw one episode, and god you suck. How'd you get a second season. Pepa's nose looks more carved up than a jack-o-lantern.

Flavor of Love 3 4 Shits

My man Flava Flav is back "looking for love" in this third season of Flavor of Love. The girls are just as ghetto, just as sleazy, and just as drunk. And Flav is just as creepy/ retarded. You should know that in this show Flav is trying to find his true love. The most entertaining parts of the show aren't usually when Flav is around. The hilarity comes from when all the drunk queens are getting in eachother's grills spouting off words I've never heard before. Nothing really more I can say about this show, other than it is also a must watch. But seriously, how the fuck does Flav have 7 kids already? A) The women were all blind B) The women wanted the $$.

.... My favorite author of all of them is Big Daddy Drew , he used to have his own blog which is linked there, but he doesn't update it anymore. But if you go there he has some really hilarious postings. So, since I've been reading those blogs alot I'm going to try and post like BDD on this one..... Go check out those blogs.

So, the NFL season kind of ended in a pretty shitty fashion. I didn't even care that I had to miss the Super Bowl. It was the fucking Gaytriots vs. Elisha Manning. I had noone to root for, usually I can pick one team to cheer on for the night, but not this one ladies and gents. It was either I choose, the fucking perfect primadonna patriots with their mumblesome, hoodie wearing prick of a coach or choose the Giants who have a 12 year old as a quarterback. All in all I would have rather had the Patriots win, because now all we're going to hear about for the next year is how Ely has come so far in his game, how he has matured, how incredible it is that two brothers won back to back super bowls and super bowl mvps....I won't be able to deal with this.

Why doesn't Archie Manning just go selling his sperm to women who want super bowl mvp sons? They do that kinda shit with horses and dogs, why not humans too??.... Fuck you Elisha Manning.

But if there's anything good to take out of this it's the fact that Tom Brady and Randy Ma are now being big crybabies and pulling out of the pro bowl. This just shows how ungrateful they are to their fans. Now I love Randy Ma, primarily because he is always good for a funny sound bite and comment....but come on. Straight cash homey. Then, today on MSN I found this article on Patriots DB Willie Andrews. I fucking love it. They lose one game and all of a sudden the whole organization goes up in flames. Oh, and not to mention the whole scandal with Bill "mumbles" Bellichick and his cheating. .... All this makes me feel a little better....now only if Ely could get Ecoli.

BN

oh and fuck Daniel Baldwin. I've been watching Dr Drew's celebrity rehab, and what a hippocrite he is. Self centered, smug, smarmy son of a bitch.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone. I fucking love New Year's Eve, it goes up in the top 3 of my favorite holidays of the year. Good times. I went over to Jake Henderson's house for a little get together with some ultimate people and non ultimate people, which usually leads to an uncomfortable setting for the non ultimate people. Luckily alcohol was involved, which loosened things up a little bit. I was fairly impressed with my drinking ability that night, I decided to keep tallies of how many shots I took during the night. I had never done this before, primarily because I don't really need to count how many I've taken, I just drink until I don't want to drink anymore. But there's a picture on facebook with my wrist marked 13 times and it was only 11:49 pm.... awesome. I think I ended up with 15 tallies. Which in turn was probably not the smartest thing since I had to wake up at 8am the next morning and drive home, pack, go to the airport, and fly 7 1/2 hours to Spain.

I was definately still drunk when my Mom picked me up that morning and then drunk for the next few hours at the airport. It was not a great morning. But my Mom, my older brother Tom (25) and I flew into Madrid that day and then took a smaller plane over to Granada. We were in Granada for two days, Cordoba for two days, Mardid for three days and Barcelona for the last four days. Granada was a pretty cool little town, not very touristy at all which was pretty nice. We visited Alhambra which is supposed to be one of the top 10 world wonders. I think it was an old Mosque for the Muslims until the Christians came and decided "Hey this place looks dank, lets take it". (not exact wording). Otherwise Granada was a pretty low key place, which was a nice way to start off our trip, getting accustomed to the time change was very difficult, and now I'm still waking up at 6 am.

Then for some reason my Mom decided to rent a car....bad idea. And we drove to Cordoba, which was only about a two hour drive at most. Her idea was to rent a car and visit a vineyard and some small neighboring towns, but when we tried to go to the vineyard we got lost in this tiny city and my brother ended up driving the wrong way down a one way street. It was awful, there were about 15 cars lined up just staring at us. If we had been waving giant American flags out our window, it would have been no different than this. Eventually we got out of there and made it to Cordoba...this is where it got horrible. The streets in Spain are so ridiculous, the traffic was horrendous, there are tons of one way streets, and tons of round-a-bouts. We were trying to find the train station because that's where we were supposed to drop off the car. After 30 minutes of driving around we found it, but we didn't know where to pull over and drop off the car. So we decided we would circle around and look again...but NO. You circle around and it leads you to a one way straight that takes you 5 miles the opposite direction. We literally drove around the city for 2 hours trying to figure out where the fuck to drop this car off. My brother was freaking out (he was driving, i was sitting in the back listening to my ipod being of no help to anyone). After getting back to the train station he pulled over to a spot where we clearly weren't supposed to park. I was forced to do something and got out and asked someone where to go. Basically, we found it, dropped it off, and we didn't speak of this incident the rest of the trip. Overall, Cordoba wasn't bad we got to see this amazing Cathedral called the Mezquita, which was a Mosque before hand.

After Cordoba we took a train to Madrid. We stayed in a really cool, modern, hotel. It was called Hotel ME. I highly suggest staying there if you ever go to Madrid. It's located in Plaza Santa Anna, which has tons of restaurants, shops and bars all around it. My brother and I's room was sick, we had a flat screen tv, stereo system, dvd player, and even an Ipod hookup so we could play our Ipods through it. The bathroom was all marble and had the most amazing shower I have ever been in. Then next to the beds there were like 8 buttons for the lights. Each button controlled a different light, and mood. There was one button that said "It's sexy time" next to it and when you pushed it all the lights would go off except for a bright purple neon light above the beds. Awesome...

Madrid was fun, alot of bars to go to. And one perk about being a tourist there is that all these guys promoting clubs and bars in the street see you and come give you these free tickets for a free drink at their club/bar. So my brother and I collected those then would go in to that place for the free drink, then move on to the next bar for a free drink. Crafty I know. But the highlight of Madrid, and probably the trip for me was going to the Real Madrid soccer game. My Mom some how scored sick, front row seats. It was amazing, and it was so fun because everyone there was so into the game and the Madrid cheering section behind the goal had drums and they were constantly shouting and cheering and dancing.

We took some photos and a sweet video from our seats.....

I can't get the video on here, but if you check out my facebook profile I uploaded it there.

Barcelona was our final stop, where we stayed at Hotel Montecarlo for four nights. It was located on "La Rambla" which is a strip over a mile long, which is basically a haven for tourists to stay. There are tons of little shops and Tapas bars to eat at, as well as drinking bars.

LA RAMBLA

While in Barcelona we went to the Olympic Stadium that was used in the 1992 Barcelona Games. We also saw where FC Barcelona played their matches. Otherwise we did alot of walking around, went and saw the Olympic port and the harbor. Did the bulk of my shopping here where we had to haggle for everything, and they definately tried to rip you off as much as possible. A few nights my brother and I went to this cool pub called Molly's Fair City, where the bartenders were from all over Europe and were extremely friendly and fun to hang out and talk with. We also met a Brazilian guy and a Swiss guy there, who both spoke great english.....neither of us spoke Portuguese or any of the 5 languages people from Switzerland speak.

The few nights we went out in Barcelona we went to the discos where all the younger people went. But the thing is people don't start showing up at these places until 3am, people in Spain don't even start dinner until around 9:30pm or later. So it was probably about 1:30 in the morning and we're walking down La Rambla to this disco, and there are alot of prostitutes in the streets around this time. You're constantly being offered something, my favorite line was "you want me suck your cock, you can have me doggystyle" as this hooker followed us for about a minute. ANYWAYS, back to the story. 1:30 in the morning and these two hookers are walking towards us so I put my hands in my pockets cause I don't want anything stolen, cause these sluts will just grab your dick and hold on to you spouting off obscenities. Sure enough, one grabs me and one grabs me brother, she tries to get one of her hands in my pockets while the other has a vice grip on my balls. I literally push her away and run she starts chasing after me, then gave up after about 10 yards. If you didn't know hookers aren't built for sprints, they're built for endurance. My brother comes running up and catches up with me and i say "did you check your pockets?" and he just goes "ohhhh fuck...well my 20 euros are gone". So the tricksy thing took 20 euros from him, this is why we didn't bring our wallets anywhere with us. Gooood times.

Overall I had a blast, got to spend some good quality time with my Mom and my brother whom I don't see very much. And got to experience a whole new culture and way of life. I did miss American telivision and eating lots of food that isn't good for me. Since I've been home I've eaten: Burger King, Davannis, Chilis, and Buffalo Wild Wings. Im feening for some Applebees tonight....we'll see.

If you made it this far I'm impressed.

Sir Beckified of Nationsville

Its been a month

Well its been a long time since i last posted. I am now drunk and ready to post some nonsensical comments filled with spelling errors and plot holes. Points to whoever can name where thats from. I just had to say something about RSD, even though ive posted on it before. I am so fucking sick of these long, stupid, pointless posts that people make. Crazy frank posts seomething and obviously people dont like it, because HE POSTS TO GET REACTIONS FROM US. And yes im guilty of responding, but most of the time theyre something like "frank you're an idiot" or "yea, the title of the book is mein kampf". But im getting so fucking sick of his shit and these people who respond to him. They think theyre making some intelligent, meaningful response that will miraculously cause him to change his ways and not post anymore, or that he will change his view points and all of a sudden like ultimate (or jews). But IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. People who give fucking 2 page responses to his posts, is what makes him live on. He knows he gets all this attention so why should he stop making retarded comments?.... Im so sick of RSD, primarily because of him, but am I feeding the fire because im reacting so brash to him? I hope not and doubt it because he doesnt read my blog, im just a drunk, college kid from eden prairie who is mediocre at ultimate.

That rant aside. I look forward to spring, outdoor, ultimate. About this time last year is when i started posting stuff like this and then i broke my wrist, so i won't elaborate. Duluth is going to do well this year. Word up on that. Hope everyone enjoys their holidays, Happy Hannakuh, and Merry Christmas..... Figuring out a job that I enjoy, get paid well for, and doesn't dominate my social life is not an easy thing to figure out. I came to the realization today that I enjoy helping people. Most of you probably haven't seen the real sincere side of me before but I have one.

I'll never forget my freshman year of college in the dorms. About a month into school it was around midnight probably, and me and some friends were walking by another one of our friends dorm room when we heard him yelling and crying. We kinda stopped and listened for a second, then the door burst open and he came out in the hall crying saying that his girlfriend was on the phone and she was saying she was going to kill herself. They had been arguing about their relationship, and he was trying to end it since they were so far away from eachother and this is how she reacted. So my friend said he couldnt take it and just ran out of the dorms, leaving her on the phone, and the phone on the desk. So I ran in his room and picked up the phone and started talking with her. She was in a frenzy and could barely talk with all her crying. It seemed like she had to scream her words just to get them out.

I talked with her for maybe 45 minutes, while I listened to her say she had a knife in her hand and that she was gonna do it right now, and tell my friend that she loved him. I finally got her to tell me her room number and dorm that she lived in, so I wrote it down and gave it to my other friends who were there and they went and found the number to campus security at her school. Security came and found her with the knife, but thank God she didn't do it.

I'll never forget this. Just hearing someone that lonely and sad ready to give up on the world. I thought about alot of things that night, how I could have been the last person she ever talked to, what if I didn't help and she would have done it. By the time I got off the phone with her I was in tears myself, it was a hard thing to listen to. I often think about this. What made me write about this topic today was that I just helped another friend out, who didn't really have anyone else helping him. He was giving signs and I dont think people took him seriously, but I know all too well from certain other experiences in my life that you have to take this seriously. And I feel good about helping. I think.....cause if it were me feeling down low I would want someone just to offer a hand, or a pat on the back just to let me know that someone is there for me. So, maybe I want to go into counseling? I dunno, maybe if I go to law school I'll specialize in something where I can help families or kids. I dont know where exactly life will take me, but that's half the fun.

David

Here We Go

So I leave for Florida tomorrow night. Fly out at 6:45pm and arrive in Tampa at 10:45 pm. I don't really feel the butterflys that I felt last year, even though this year it seems like it's kind of a bigger deal making open nationals. I'm pretty sure it'll hit me Thursday morning, arriving at the fields I've seen on DVDs a hundred times, seeing the "big names" I've watched on tv and read about even more times.

Who knows how we'll do, I know alot of predictions have us not winning a game, and sure that's expected from people when you're seeded 16th. If we don't win a game it's really not that big of deal to me, as long as we work hard in every game we play and have no regrets. I think we'll win though and I hope we surprise some people in the process.

Looking forward to Florida. Not looking forward to the flying.

Becky

I'll try to get on clip of the day, whether it's because I did something sweet, or because Bart Watson put his sack on the top of my head....or because I was screaming Beckified behind the camera when something cool happened. You need volume for this, listen for Beckified.
http://www.ultivillage.com/Ultimate-Frisbee-Videos/Video-Archive/UPA-Mixed-Final---Playing-Saturday.html

Regional Thoughts

Regionals has come and gone....and it went extremely well. For probably the 12 of you who read my blog, you already know that VBB has made nationals and how we made it. Here are just a few thoughts and comment I have about the weekend.

Dank

Qualifying for nationals after going 1-2 to start the tournament, then winning 6 straight games.

The team really bonding together on Sunday and really getting the sidelines into every single game

Everyone making the best out of the points they played and really giving it their all

The Rackages dominating the region and them supporting us all the way

It was really nice to see alot of guys on the team getting emotional after we qualified, but it really meant alot to me to see Rob, Louis, and Jimmy get teary eyed. I've known these guys for some years now and I know how bad they've wanted this and it meant alot to see them so happy. I'm proud of you guys.

Throwing the frisbee to Simon (Karl Doege's dog) many many times

Spending the weekend with a dank group of peeps, and getting wasted Sunday night at the Tin Dog. "WE'RE GOING TO CLUB OPEN NAAAAATIONALS."

Un-Dank

Dropping a grip load of cash to go to Tulsa

Having my flight from Duluth to Mpls. cancelled and having to take a school bus to Mpls. barely making my flight to Tulsa.

The weather, off and on pouring rain, then sun, then warm rain, then cold rain.

The whole blown out of proportion ordeal with Madcow, and seeing half of their team belittle and scream obscenities at my friend and my teammate.

Madcow posting on RSD that our team was classless and that we won because of cheap calls and biased observers. (dicks)

Willis from Madcow having a serious knee injury.

Having my flight from Tulsa to Mpls. cancelled due to weather that was perfect.

Passing out wasted at 3:30 am Monday morning, waking up at 5am and taking a cab to the airport. Waiting in line to get my boarding pass for 15 minutes, get to the front, then run to the bathroom to throw up because I'm still drunk as fuck.

My flights from Mpls. to Duluth being cancelled two more times, and Northwest losing my bag.

But all in all, it was an adventure and I had a blast. Lots of memories from this weekend, and Im sure Florida will only bring better and brighter things. See all you VBB and Rackages in Sarasota.

David

p.s. Im up at 6:00 am now because Ive been studying for a midterm since 9:30 pm.

Central Region Seedings for Club Open

So the seedings for regionals this weekend are up...

http://www.upa.org/scores/tourn.cgi?div=127&id=3845

To tell you the truth I don't really understand them. Of course Zero deserves to be number 1, but my confusion comes with BAT, Machine and Madcow.

Observations

BAT has an RRI of 2518, with a 1-2 record against Madcow, and a 1-0 record against Machine

Machine has an RRI of 2545, with an 0-0 record against Madcow, and an 0-1 record against BAT

Madcow has an RRI of 2520, with a 2-1 record against BAT, and an 0-0 record against Machine.

I guess what I'm wondering is, why isn't Madcow seeded second, BAT seeded third, and Machine seeded fourth. Is RRI that important?? Madcow has beaten BAT twice and has a higher RRI than them. Machine has lost to BAT but has a higher RRI than them. So, are they trying to say that BAT deserves the two seed because they have proven that they can beat both Machine and Madcow? If that is so, why isn't Madcow seeded third, they've proven they can beat BAT and Machine hasn't proven that they can't beat either.

If I were to switch it around at all I would make BAT the two seed, Madcow the three seed and Machine the four seed. But the other weekend Donovan McNabb made some comments about black Quarterbacks in the NFL....

"People are trying to dig too deep in this whole situation," he said. "I wasn't pinpointing particular people. What I said was the fact that we (black QBs) have to do a little extra. No matter the style of play you're displaying, there's always going to be criticism."

"There's not that many African-American quarterbacks, so we have to do a little bit extra," McNabb tells HBO. "Because the percentage of us playing this position, which people didn't want us to play ... is low, so we do a little extra."

I honestly don't get why he brought this up. I don't want anyone to think I'm racist because I don't like what he said, I just don't understand why the race issue always has to brought up. I mean, how many starting black quarterbacks are there in the NFL right now? I don't know but I'm guessing maybe 5-7. Ok, Donovan has a point there aren't alot of black QB's....so what? I want one of you to name a starting white running back in the NFL.... hmmm tick tock tick tock. Ok, name a starting white cornerback in the NFL, there was just an article on MSN today saying "What happened to the white CB?". Then look at wide receivers, I know there are white wide receivers but how many are considered to be the number 1 WR on the team.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, why bring up race? It seemed to me like he was getting called out on his shotty play and going 0-2, and came up with some sort of reasoning as to why it may be harder on him. But of course I'm not a black man, and I most likely will never truly understand what he is saying or where he is coming from. I guess personally, I feel like our society pulls the race card way too fast sometimes.
(Ex. "Duke Lacrosse Scandal" "Michael Vick Case" "Barry Bonds")

I dunno, I guess I'm kinda confused on the topic, maybe it's because I grew up in Eden Prairie and I've been kind of sheltered my whole life. But please I don't want anyone to think I'm racist or anything, this is just something that I was thinking about and I'd like to hear some opinions.

David

DULUTH UNDER BECKIFIED WARNING

This just in....

"The people of Duluth are now under a severe Beckified Warning. Thousands and thousands of people are missing, if you see any people roaming the streets looking lost please contact 1-800-IGOT-BECKIFIED and hopefully a family will recognize them and take them home.
If you'd like to donate to the Beckified relief fund, please don't hesitate to send checks to...

Beckified Relief Fund
David Bequette
1428 East Third Street
Duluth, Minnesota 55805

Any donations will help these poor souls."

Heavyweights

So I have realized that Im not very good at posting about tournaments, the main reason being that I don't really pay attention to everything that well. Usually I just get too into the game and don't really remember the fine details of everything. So, here's a brief summary.

Saturday.....

Goat vs. VBB
Goat was good. Every player was like 6'3 and taller, or so it seemed. And they could all throw and were athletic. I sat out this game because I didn't warm up enough before we started doing a huck drill and i tweaked my hamstring. We never were really in control of this game at all, they went up a few breaks and that's kind of how it finished. I think the final was 13-9 or something like that. I do believe that if we played our best and played two good halfs of ultimate we maybe beat them.

Last Call vs. VBB
This was an important game, we needed to win this one in order to make top two in our pool and move up to the power pools. This game was pretty back and forth the whole time, we were just exchanging O points most of the way. Then I think it was 9-9 and we pulled upwind. I got down on the pull as fast as I could (which i like to do) and marked my guy, which was the force side handler. He positioned himself a little too far downfield, at least I think so. And the handler in the center had the disc, I was eyeing this guy the whole time and you could sort of tell he had tunnel vision. So he threw a pass downfield and I had a pretty nice layout poach D. Rob picked up it quickly and threw a backhand to Nickel Slots for the upwind break. It felt pretty good to do something worth while. Then we got two more breaks after that and won the game.

Sir Duke vs. VBB
Not really an exciting game. They had like two guys who did all the work, the blonde long haired kid and the sweat pants guy. I will give the blonde haired kid credit, he worked his ass off the whole time and played pretty much every point. But, this team wasn't very good, noone could really break except for the two and they also had a small number of players. This game was never really a challenge, and we win easily 13-8 or so.

Power Pools.....

Big Ass Truck vs.VBB
I dont really remember this game much probably because the day was getting long and hot. I do remember that their offense was pretty efficient at times and didn't have much trouble scoring on us. Sorry, thats all I got. Bat wins by 3 or 4.

Madcow vs. VBB
These guys were dicks. First and foremost.....dicks. And I know people will say "oh you cant let a few bad apples make you hate the whole team" but yes I can, and I do. Kent, however, is a really nice guy. This game was also back and forth alot, offense scores easily, theres does too. But we broke them a few times I think and took a pretty comfortable lead late in the second half. They make alot of bullshit calls and then continue to argue and talk about them for like 15 minutes. This one guy called travel on Joe Dimes like 10 times, when all he was doing was catching the under and pivoting out. Maybe if the guy could actually defend Joe he wouldn't have to make up travel calls so much....dick..... But we were up 9-7 and I think we were pulling, they score their O point and then break us so its tied up at 9's. Then....they break us again and they're up 10-9, our O line works hard and puts it in to tie it at 10's. In the middle of that point the horn blew and the game was capped at 11, so Universe. We put up a good fight in the last point but just couldn't pull it out, but it really isn't fair when you've got 7 guys on the field calling bullshit the whole time. Que sera sera.

Sunday....

Sub Zero vs. VBB
We were all waiting for this game again, I think there was a little bit of nervous excitedness running through everyone. We started out on D and they score fairly easily, using their tall athletic receivers who all look exactly alike on the line....Do you guys do that on purpose? Matching hats, wristbands etc. Our O line looks good and we trade O points up to 3-3. We pull upwind and get a D, which I then decide to turnover on an IO backhand break to Karl. Thankfully, we get it back and march it up wind to score for the first break of the game 4-3. But then they took a timeout and had a little run. They scored their O point and broke us twice in a row. From that point on we traded mostly and they ended up winning 11-9. I was happy with how we played this game, but it woulda been nice to win..... Feel better Jerome.

Frontline (madison) vs. VBB
I dont want to really talk about this game. We start out strong taking half 8-5 and we receive downwind to start the second half. I think our small rotation of O line players are feeling a bit fatigued and we get broken a few times in a row. We end up losing this game by 3 or 4..... Tough loss, I think we got tired out and our hearts weren't fully into it.

Overall it was a good weekend, hot, the fields are still really hard on the feet but it was worth it. The 9 1/2 hour drive back to Duluth sucked balls, especially since i drove the whole way, and got pulled over. Tail light out my ass, but I got let off after going 95 in a 65....eek.

Time to rest and eat pizza.

becky

URGENT MESSAGE: Duluth soon to become Beckified

Alright alright alright I'll post.... I didn't post about MUDI because I think 19 players from VBB had already done so, and I'm almost positive that they all post better than I do. In short, 6-1, lost to Zero, hip haraah we did well, I love you all, you guys are super, everyone played great and did their part...... Ok now that I got that over with.

So, I drove up to Duluth on Tuesday to meet with my transfer advisor, who actually was very helpful. Every advisor I have ever had at St Thomas, was uninterested and really did not give a flying fuck about what my plans were, or what classes I was taking. This was a breath of fresh air, I had previously talked to her on the phone and she asked what I wanted to major in and what I was interested in, and I told her I had been thinking about law school. So, when I got there she already had a list of classes for me to check out that would go for my major and would also look good if I decided to apply to law school. Very nice, easy, relatively quick. Below is my fall schedule....

Fall 2007

American Government and Politics: MWF, 9:00-9:50 AM

I am fairly excited to take this class, its an entry level course so it shouldn't be too difficult and I'll probably learn some worth while things. Such as why George Bush is a moron etc. etc. The hardest part about this will be waking up at fucking 8:30 every MWF..... eek

Latin American Law through Film: TTH, 10:00-11:50 AM

This is a special topics course so it isn't offered all the time, I also look forward to his because it has to do with the two things I'm interested in; Law and well spanish stuff....things. Ya know. And then learning by watching movies, oh baby that's money, once again the hardest part will be waking up at 9:30 every TTH. But I'm sure I'll get plenty of naps in during the films.

Advanced Spanish: MTTHF, 1:00-1:50 PM

I don't know how this is going to go, it's obviously taught in all spanish and I'm not sure how rusty I will be but this is what I came here to accomplish so I should be some what good at it....right? Either way I'm sure I'll learn alot and hopefully get a ton better, but I'm nervous for the oral proficiency exam that I have to take at the end of the semester. Basically it consists of me sitting with a professor and speaking spanish for like 20 minutes. Aye dios mio. Maybe Lou can teach me some of his excellent vocabulary.

CPR/AED Professional Rescuer: TTH, 2:00-3:15 PM

Here it is ladies. Finally you have a reason to pull the old "help help I'm drowning, I may need CPR" routine when you're around me. You can tell everyone it's because you wanted to make sure I passed my final, but we'll all know the real reason. So, I needed one credit to become a full time student, and I need to be full time to play ultimate, so I enrolled in this swell course. It should be interesting, but yet again not too challenging. I look forward to making out with manicans(sp?) though.

The school year won't come soon enough for me right now, I'm really excited to get out of the cities and do something new. I haven't lived further than 35 minutes away from Eden Prairie in my life, and this will probably be good for me. I'll get to meet all you swell Duluthians and all the ultimate people. I am super pumped for the team this year and it sounds like alot of people are also excited, I'm expecting a good year for Northern Lights.

That's all I have for now, maybe I'll beat the rest of the VBB's and post about Cooler before anyone else....Nah Louis will beat me to it.

Lates

becky

Freedom Fest Champions and VBB Practice

The Champs

So a few weekends ago I played with the "St. Cloud Alum" team at Freedom Fest, if you can even call it a St. Cloud Alum team. I think they had like 4 alumni and two current players...?? Then the team was stacked with zero players such as the infamous Pats, Dikeman, TO, Nazzle, Geo Bot, Mix master little ticket etc. etc.

Game 1: USA vs. UMD

We started off the tournament against my future college team. Northern Lights. You could tell they were a college team from the start, we threw junk zone against them pretty much the whole time and they would make an unforced turnover which we would quickly capitalize on. It didn't help that they were missing Yossi, Creature, Jake, LT, Smurgs....and well myself. So, I didn't think too much of it and I am very excited to play with those guys this upcoming year.
I believe the final score was 13-4.

Game 2: USA vs. Team America

This game was against some Iowa State boys, including Mike Lun (he's chinese ya know), Fat Smellsworth, and then some Isuc women such as Gibbs, Derscheid, and Tai-won-obiwan kanobi. We didn't really come out too hard in the beginning of this one, and they did. I think they went up 4-2 on us with two breaks in there. Also, Gibbs posted in her blog that she got a "D" on me, and I would like to clarify. She got a 'D' but did not "D" me. She was guarding me on the dump and I think it was Ike who decided to throw a dump pass to me when she was standing in between me and the disc. Sooooo, I was promptly heckled afterwards and heard about it the rest of the day. After going down 2 I believe we scored the next 5 to take it to half and ended up winning the game like 13-7 or something like that. But the obvious highlight of this game was when someone ripped a lofty huck downfield to black Pat and Mike Lun had inside position on him, but Pat decided to ignore this fact and place his testicles on Mike's shoulders while he grabbed the disc over him. Mike called a foul, but then took it back realizing that it wasn't Pat's hands on his shoulders but his balls resting there gently...... hope you like that Mike haha.

Game 3: USA vs. Goldbergstein

We then played the Hopkins alumni team with DFJ. He was not pleased that I backed out from playing with his team to join the stacked team, so he grabbed me before the game and using his burly strength held me against my will and gave me a hicky on my neck.... I'm still finding beard hairs all over. The kids looked good, they were obviously playing against some tougher competition but I really cannot wait to see these guys when they've got a few years of college ultimate under their belt. Any team that's getting a Hopkins' kid should consider themselves lucky because they're already gonna be well versed in the sport, spirited, and hard working. And alot of credit goes to those guys' coaches. We win this game 13-5 or so.

Game 4: USA vs. Liquid A$$et$

My boys, my buddies, my friends. They were looking good earlier in the day which made me very happy to see. I'm not gonna really go into depth because I'm already getting bored of typing, but we won the game 13-9 I think. My least favorite part of the tournament happened in this game when I lined up across Louis (Fast St. Thomas boy, only gonna be a Jr.) and I told my team "somebody switch with me I can't keep up with him", and they were all like "quit being a pussy you'll be fine". So of course I guard him he gets like two unders, then goes deep on me and scores.....fucking ginger.

Highlight of the day was going to the Lake and hanging out in the Sub Zero water.... the water wasn't that cold but the Sub Zero players literally dibbsed the water to be theirs. I taught the dibbs game to people and many a dibbses followed, some pre-emptive, some definate jackpots, and some were thrown to the farm in South Dakota.

Sunday

We won, I didn't play very well, but I beat Gibbs, Mike, Tai, Ellsworth, and Derscheid again so I was happy. ;)

Apparently Dingwop was in the process of making a trophy for us but I'm guessing they got too Dinged up and forgot about it. If you want to mail me the trophy guys, email me for my mailing address.

Van Buren Boys Practice

I got kind of really sick on Friday during the day/evening so this weekend was kinda tough for me. I got home from the Harry Potter movie on Friday night and I was shaking uncontrollably and just felt like puking, not to mention I had a sore throat. I tried to go to bed but couldn't sleep, so I got up and talked to Joe for a bit then I threw up a little.... 4 hours of sleep later my alarm was blazing in my face, I didn't even wanna get up and go. But somehow I managed to do so and I slept the whole way to Iowa in the backseat of Louis' car.

When we got there everyone was already warming up and stuff, so we quickly threw our stuff on and got going. It was nice to actually meet the people who I have seen alot, or have played against before. Like Louis said in his post, everyone on the team just seems like great people who love ultimate and get along really well. We ran some drills and ran some sprints then we split into O and D lines and scrimmaged. I was on the D line with some other peeps and we ended up losing the game by a couple. I think we could have won the game, but I feel like we kept shooting ourselves in the foot. We would get turns but we just couldn't convert, often making high risk throws. I did not play well at all in this game. I think I had like 5 or 6 turnovers, I'll take credit for basically all of them because I feel like if I have the disc I should be able to find some way to make it possible for one of my teammates to catch the disc. And I didn't do a good job of that, I kinda felt like it was tough to get in a groove with the handlers though, it obviously doesn't help that I haven't played with these guys before though. But I forced some break throws that I normally don't ever do, overshot a huck, overall just a frustrating scrimmage for me. I think I got one poach D though.

The next day was kinda the same, I think I had 2 turnovers and no D's, but I could definately tell my body was worn out. Most likely from the long ass day before and from my Flu like sickness. Either way I can't make excuses. I look forward to playing with all the Boyeeeees this weekend at MUDI, and my family is all coming to watch on Saturday so you assholes better be on your best behavior.... yea I'm talking to you roudy Mike Lun.

See you all this weekend in thrilling Maple Plain!!!

Nation

oh and we are the erotic photohunt champions.... we challenge anyone.

For Shawn

This post is dedicated to Shawn Walding.....

So today Liquid Assets scrimmaged the Master's team, and it was a fucking rough morning. Last night was another Beckified evening as black Pat, white Pat and I got drunked up. Did some pregaming at the Pat condo for awhile then picked up black Pat's friend Michal (girl) and we went to The Loop. I had never been to this bar before, it was pretty fun, lots of drinking and dancing with a really hot girl....60 bucks later we were back at the condo and I was devouring Toppers' sticks at 3:00 am.
Fast forward 6 hours and Im waking up partially drunk driving home then to Nokomis. After a horrible warm up jog where I almost got my Toppers sticks back, it was time to play. I played all O points, which I was very pleased with, I just feel more comfortable playing offense. I wonder if most ultimate players are more comfortable playing O or D.... I would think that alot of people like O better, but I guess some would rather play D because there is less pressure on you. As Louis says, "D wins you games, O can only lose them". Ain't that the truth.
Anyways, scrimmage went alright, Assets lost 15-12 or something like that. I didn't feel like I made much of an impact in this game, they played zone alot and I did a good job of swinging it and breaking around the marks but I never threw a huck or a goal for that matter. I kinda felt like our cutters would get the disc downfield and then immediately feel like they have to throw downfield again, rather then taking their time and resetting the offense with a handler. But these scrimmages are meant to figure things out, so no big deal.

I'm watching "The Girl Next Door" right now and Elisha Cuthbert is extremely hot. I'd mate with her.

So, this weekend is Freedom Fest, I am fucking psyched for this tournament. Primarily because it'll be my first outdoor tournament since Nationals and because the team I'm playing on is stacked. Got the Pats, nazzle, mix master little ticket and some other zero boos, along with misc. other friends. Plus, everyone is just gonna get T-rashed as well, and apparently the Woppers are going to have a turkey there??? If they indeed have a live turkey running around you can count on me getting drunk and chasing that mother fucker. Ok, Im going back to EP now for free dinner with the fam.

Hope this somewhat pleases you Master Walding.

Beckified out

This was supposed to be the summer of George!!!!

So far summer has been pretty nice. I've graduated and decided not to get a job yet, so I'm just coasting off of my grad money. I get to sleep in, play Nintendo Wii, workout, throw the disc and eat pizza whenever I want...i love it. However, I do find myself getting bored at times, which is why I'm surprised I haven't posted more often on here. Zero tryouts have come and gone and I got cut, which I'm not too heart broken about. I think I would be more dissapointed in myself if I were completely healthy, in shape, and playing in my normal position with my dominant hand. Not that I'm going to use all that as an excuse as to why I didn't make it, but let's be honest here that didn't help anything. I'm happy for all the guys who did make it and I hope Zero rocks it at nationals this year.

As for frisbee this summer goes, I'm still up in the air. I went to some Moe tryouts but missed a bunch because of Zero tryouts and missed their tryout tournament because of my graduation party (thanks mother), so they decided to cut me this year. That's fair. So, I've been going to Liquid Assets the past week and a half and playing with them, they said I have a roster spot on their team if I want it, but I'm going to be trying out with the Van Buren Boys. I will be going to their practices on July 14-15, and then playing with them at MUDI and MoTown, then they will decide whether to keep my beautiful ass or not.

I really would like to play with VBB this year, I'm friends with a bunch of guys on the team and they will be very competetive in the series, and ideally that's what I'm looking for. Also, a team that can make me better and teach me, and I believe that they could do that for me. I'd really like to learn some things from Ross Cram....man he's got big calves. Also, Louis has been telling me about Matt Ellsworth and how funny he is and I would like to meet this Ellsworth and discuss the hilarities of life with him. I just read Louis blog, and I realized it has been so long since I've played in a tournament. The last one I played in was the indoor one where I broke my wrist (fuck you St Johns fuck you, Im coming for the rat bastard that took me out) and that was only like a 4 team tournament. Soooo, the last time I played in an outdoor tournament was Nationals last year.....That is far too long.

Random Things

* My Mom got an 8 week old puppy, half Beijon half poodle, her name is Sophie. Me and my brothers aren't too fond of the name it's too girly, so I think I'm going to call it blade.

* Scratch that Im going to call it Brutus

* Wrist is getting better I can throw again, but it is awfully weak and gets pretty sore after playing. But it is definately nice to handle again I don't know how the fuck cutters do what they do.

* If anyone wants to see my Bungee Jumping DVD from when I jumped 440 feet in New Zealand, come over and check it out!

* I'm really stretching for more things to say so I will stop here....

Over and out.

beckford

Frisbee Updates and Random Thoughts

Nationals

Well it has been awhile since I last posted, and that is primarily because I had regionals to go, lots of papers, finals and projects to do and graduation. But Im all done with that nonsense. I actually drove out to College Nationals to do some watching/heckling with Truesdale and his friend Caleb who plays for St. Olaf. The drive sure was shitty, being like 12 hours long and especially since Trues didn't drive stick. Caleb did, but I was pretty awake driving there so I drove the whole way. It was pretty sweet watching all those teams that you read about or see on Ultivillage, but I really didn't have that "woah these guys are all so much better than me" feeling. Maybe I'm growing up, maybe I've gotten better, who knows. There was a bunch of us there, some zero players and friends, Minnesota boys and some CUT alums. We all put aside our competetiveness and banned together to form one group of Central Regioners, rather than CUT, MN, Olaf, St Thomas, Iowa St. etc.

We watched the CUT games mostly rooting them on, we obviously wanted them to get that third bid for the region. The best was watching the Florida vs CUT game in quarters, where we all decided to count stoppages of play out loud. After 2 points the count was at 12! I placed the over/under at 70, and the final outcome was I think 63. The highlight of this game was Michael Arenson's comment to some guy on Florida name Crandall, they had their names on their jerseys. So, Nolan on CUT caught a disc over the laying out Crandall in the endzone and he layed on the ground, and Nolan spiked the disc right in front of him and says "BOO YEAH!!" Obviously us spectators loved it and yelled BOO YEAH back. Then Michael yells.....

"Yeah in your face Cardinal!!!" apparently his jersey was overlapping and mike thought it said Cardinal, which was pretty fucking hilarious. The guy promptly turns around flicks Michael off haha, he was so embarassed...silly freshman. So, the rest of the game there were plenty Boo Yeah heckles and Cardinal yelling.

Zero

So, Im still going with zero tryouts, and it is almost over. I haven't been doing a bad job considering I am cutting and playing with my left hand. I can't really make continue passes when I get unders, rather, I prefer not to try because I don't want to turn it over, but the cutting isn't all that bad. I have made a few nice layouts on O, and one layout D in a drill, but I haven't really had that big defensive play that makes me stand out in a scrimmage. My defense hasn't been bad though, I have been doing a pretty good job at shutting down the person I'm guarding, giving up unders here and there but I haven't really ever been burned deep or anything either, so that's a plus. SO, they've been going well and I can only keep trying my best, I believe the final cuts are on the 17th so here's hoping.

Animal Wars

Hippo Vs. Rhino

Personally I think that a hippo would win this match up, now of course the environment in which they are fighting is key. So let's say that they are fighting on land but some 40 yards away there is a small lake.
I believe that the rhino will get the first shot in, making a long fast charge at the hippo and striking him with his horn. This will hurt the hippo, maybe break a few ribs but won't put him out. After this first charge the hippo will take over, with a mouth that can open as wide as their body the hippo will use their massive tusks to puncture the rhinos side and keep slashing him with them. The rhino will try a few times to get some distance and make another charge but the hippo will be right on his ass using those killer tusks.

Then all of a sudden the rhino realizes he's made a grave mistake...He's put himself right near the water and the hippo uses this to his advantage and pushes the rhino into the lake. The hippo continues to just slash and bash away at the rhino eventually getting him submerged under the water. This is when the fight will end and the hippo emerges victorious, only sustaining a few cuts, some broken ribs and a cracked tusk.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this battle, I will be posting more animal wars later on.

Over and out....

beckified

Central Regionals 2k7

I went to Decorah this past weekend to watch regionals. Nothing too exciting really, but it was fun to watch Minnesota alot and get to know alot of the guys. Hopefully I'll be hitting the field with them next year.

The finals wasn't that fun to watch, the Hodags just came out way too strong and pretty much dominated the game. I don't see how anybody could beat wisconsin this year, they just seem so dominant. I made a comment to Pat this weekend saying that the Hodags just look like they're so much older than every other team, it's ridiculous. They dwarf other teams.

So, good luck to Wisconsin and CUT at nationals, here's hoping you both make semis this year and bring home a third bid to the Central.

Side note....Colin from the U posted this on RSD today and I thought it was hilarious, I like him. He's a funny guy, knows what he's talking about and is fun to watch play, especially with those ridiculous backhands.

"Not wholly in direct reply to Alex Peters...
Depends on what your goal for Nationals is. To crown the best team champion? Probably doing a fine job as is. To have the most competitive tournament possible? Two bids per region isn't going to do that. To have a tournament with equal representation based on area of countries? Then maybe the NE and ME should give up a bid. Tournament with equal representation based on number of teams? Then NE and ME deserve extra bids.
Seems to me like everyone has a complaint and says it's easily solved, but nobody narrows the issue down and comes up with a solution, so I'm going to step up and do it.
This season, I think bids should have been determined based on a committee of my friends voting, based on their knowledge of this year's teams. My friends might not go to every tournament, but if teams aren't willing to travel to the big tournaments that my friends do go to, then maybe those teams just don't want it badly enough.
If the teams from my Region do well at Nationals this year, then next year I want all the bids allocated as strength bids. Size bids are bogus and there's no way to get a truly qualified, unbiased selection committee.
If I move into the Metro East next year, I want everything to be based on size bids. There's so much turnover in college ultimate that strength bids aren't accurate predictors, so by giving more bids to Regions with more teams, you maximize the chances of sending stronger teams to Nationals.
The solution to the bids to nationals issue is so obvious, I don't know what the boneheads at the UPA do with themselves to not have already figured this out. If we had referees, more people would be excited about the sport, we'd draw our UPA officials from a larger pool and thereby get smarter people to fill those roles so the UPA would actually accomplish something. And if we had two bids per Region, then we'd stimulate growth in the smaller Regions, increasing revenue to the UPA so we'd have the funds to do a wide scale implementation of refs.
We need a few less pony-tail-wearing hippies at the UPA and a few more fresh young brilliant thinkers like me. Just because I didn't spend the time to submit a proposal doesn't mean you shouldn't do exactly what I demand of you on RSD, UPA.
Personal opinions only, of course. I love this time of the year (More so when I can actually play). But I love going to the fields and seeing all the people I know and just watching all the ultimate, good times.

Good luck to all you teams out there, except for you St. Johns. You ruined my life this year by taking me out and I can only hope swift vengence is brought down upon you, like Thor's mighty hammer. (Sorry Crotchy)

Predictions

1) CUT- I don't see how anybody can really stop Goldstein and his posse.

2) Minnesota- A ton better this year, good team, but losing Geo hurts and Mr. Gill can only do so much.

3) Winona St.- Don't really know a ton about these guys this year, but I do know that they will be working their asses off to do well for Ollie.

4) St. Olaf- I guess I was never really that impressed with Olaf this year but apparently they've been doing well, and they do have one of the craftiest ultimate players as their coach...He's just full of craftiness.

5) GOPenis- I know alot of teams dont really like GOP, but I love these guys, good people and they do well every year. Plus they're from Carleton.

6) Gustavus- Out of every team in the section GAC probably bothers me the most. Their style of play (basically huck and hope) and swillyness bugs the shit out of me. They don't really have a solid handler crew so look for Rizzo and Max to try and do all the work, but we'll see how strong their shoulders are.

On a side note, I think it is fucking ridiculous that Iowa gets 5 bids to regionals. Sure Grinell has gotten alot better, but Nebraska!!! You have to be shittin me, all I know is if they go to regionals they're gonna get blown out by everyone. They lost to Oklahoma St...TWICE. And St. Thomas beat Oklahoma St. 13-3....Yikes. And the Northwoods has 15 teams compared to West Plains which had 9....stupid.

See you this weekend.

becky

Spinvite 2k7

This weekend St. Thomas went to Spinvite, a tournament in Steven's Point, Wisconsin. There were only 7 teams there including us, Whitewater, Marquette, Madison-B, Stevens Point, Stevens Point Alumni (plus friends), St. Thomas and Wiconsin Plattesville.....

Our first game we played against Marquette. They were nothing specil, they had one guy who played for the coed team Seiche out of Milwaukee, who basically did everything for them. And we couldn't stop him apparently. But it's not like he won the game for them, we lost the game for ourselves like we have been doing as of late. We started off ok, trading the first few points then all of a sudden we just start to crumble. We make idiotic throws, drop easy passes, make stupid ass poaches (despite the screams from me and Rob Mooers), get broken with weak marks and pretty much anything else we could have done wrong we did. We lose this one 13-5 I think, not a pretty one.

Game two was against Wiconsin Plattesville....sigh. This team is bad, really bad, they had two girls on the team. I would say the only reason this game was good for us was because we got a little bit of confidence out of it, we were actually swinging for the first time this spring. We set up plays that actually worked and were playing harder D. Now, this really wasn't a big deal because this team was honestly really bad, but I know for some of our guys it helped to get that little boost of confidence. I think we are a very emotional team, if something bad happens we get way down on ourselves and it's hard for us to get back up. So we win this one 13-2 I think.

Game three we played Whitewater, I think they were missing some of their guys because they seemed a bit shorthanded. We actually start off really well, it seems like the positivity from the previous game has carried over. We start off with a break, we get the turn then played chilly O and worked it in. I think UWW was a little surprised. We came with our zone and got a few turns but could never cash the check, they tie it up. We score the next O point and then i think we trade points until 4's. Then BOOM, it happens again. Drops, stupid shit that I know we are better than. We played absolutely horrible. Some intensity was there and we were trying but we just couldnt tie anything together. I believe we lose this one 13-5 or 6.

That night we all just completely shit faced to the max. The seniors have a tradition every year where they meet and each choose an under classmen, AKA their "horse". There was 5 of us and Rob (our coach), we met and all chose different horses. The purpose of this game is to make your horse be the first one to throw up, yup I'm a good captain. So, we make our choices without anyone else really knowing what's going on and then we just fucking dig in. When I walked back into the hotel room the first thing I did was make my horse take a shot of Sakke (sp?). He was already getting pretty drunk and he told me "well, I'll listen to anyone who gives me liquor". I just looked at the other seniors and laughed, how could I not win this!?....of course I didn't. We got them all shit tanked though. Gold medal went to Yayo for picking Ike, a brand new freshman to the team this spring, who decided to talk shit and say he could out drink all of us. Silver went to Al for choosing Snorlax who was throwing up until maybe 3 am. At one point I went in the bathroom to check on him and he was passed out with his pants down on the toilet. And the bronze went to me for picking Whispers, another freshman who can't handle hard alcohol.

Sunday morning. We played Wisconsin-B first, I had actually never really seen them play but they were pretty good. Of course their coach, Nate, who used to be a Hodag was playing with them. But they did have some very solid players and pretty much took it to us after the first few points. However, in this game I got the D of the weekend (i wasnt playing either). One of our guys threw a huck right on the line and it went out and never came back in. So one of the pimpdags picked up the disc and walked with it then threw it back to the spot where it went out of bounds. I was like wait wait wait, that's a turnover. Then Nate was trying to tell me that it was just a travel, but I wouldn't let it go and eventually he came to agree with me and we got it back. Kind of cheap, but hey, I'll take it.

Then we played Stevens Point Alumni who had Mr. Andrew Brown on their team and we started off well going up 5-2, then I think we lost 13-6. We just could not break their zone for the life of us. Very frustrating to watch as an O handler.

After that we played Stevens Point and it just seemed like our heads were never in it. Three straight points on O we would catch the pull and drop either the next pass, or the next two passes. We get killed. Overall it was a pretty frustrating weekend for me and Im sure the guys who were playing. We have alot of work to do before this next weekend, which makes me very nervous. I just feel like our team has fucking ADD or something, when it comes game time it seems like they just forget everything we taught them all season and what we talked about in the huddle right before the game. Someone just said something to me recently that I found to be very profound and I agree with it completely. Commenting on a player from my team he said, "it seems like he's made up his mind that he has nothing left to learn". I completely agree with this. Some people just have this attitude that they already know enough about ultimate that they don't have to listen to me or another captain or Rob. And that is the most frustrating thing in the world, and my guys will never get any better if they start acting like this. I feel like I never would be where I am now in my game if I hadn't been soaking up everything I was taught from the moment I started, and I know I definately have alot more to learn.

We'll see how practice goes this week and how we'll end up at sectionals. On a side note my Hopkins Ladies went 5-1 this weekend at the Paidea tournament in Georgia, losing in the finals to the Paidea ladies.

take care,
becky

RSD Ridiculousness

Dont'cha just love RSD? I know I read it all the time and visit it daily, but man is it just ridiculous at times. I of course add to this ridiculousness because I often post when I am highly intoxicated. For example, the "Who else hates Wisconsin Ultimate" thread. I was bombed when I posted on there (like I said in my previous post) but I don't necessarily believe in what I said, except for the stuff about Shane. Then this guy Casey posts a response later on where he makes a copy of some of the UPA rankings where there are B teams ahead of St. Thomas and says something like,

"Somehow, the inane prattling of the '06 Captain of St. Thomas doesn't seem to hold much weight."

This is why I love RSD. I don't know if he was just trying to be funny or what, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know me or my team, so obviously I just take it with a grain of salt. Funny shit, that thread is now on 91 posts I think. Shane or any Hodag, if you read this, do something crazy (without injuring someone) just so another thread like this will come up. People take RSD so seriously sometimes and it's just silly. Don't get me wrong, RSD can be used for meaningful and thought out conversations and discussions, but threads like that one don't belong (unless it's for humor). If you have a beef with someone, find out their email, I'm sure you could do it with ease through RSD, and email them personally and have a conversation with them, don't belittle someone on a public forum. Ehh whatever, no big deal though.

Random Things

I might play sectionals if I can convince my Dr. to slap a hard cast on my wrist.

I've had some random people talk to me about them trying out for Moe, which pleases me.

Props to the Hodag website, I actually enjoy Muffin's write ups and think they're pretty funny, nice pictures and vids also.

U of M website, come on update it, no Centex write up yet. Pictures? Vids?

Other than that shiz, I look forward to seeing all of you at Sectionals in 9 days, it'll be a good time.

Take care,

Becky

Penny Whistles and Moon Pies

It's been quite awhile since my last post, which I'm not surprised about considering how busy I've been. 5 classes, service hours I have to complete to graduate (which is coaching at Hopkins) captaining my team, and this stupid wrist ordeal. Plus, I've been thinking about my blog and I don't really have any exciting, pertanent information, basically it's just me rambling on about what's going on in my life. I don't give any life lessons or have any witty remarks like Mr. Seiler.
I've kinda been in a daze the past month or so, just trying to make it through each week without flipping out on someone. I think most of this stress is built up from the lack of ultimate, I mean this is the longest I've gone without ultimate since before my freshman year. So, to replace my playing I've been watching alot of ultimate, I bought the UVTV college package thing and I just ordered the WUCC open dvd. Hopefully these will feed my cravings for a while.

I've finally started working out again too, the doctor didn't want me to run or do anything while I had a hard cast on but I got this removable splint put on last week, so I've been doing some distance running, leg lifts and some sprints, and the occasional 8 minute abs at night. At this point I just want to get to where I was when I got injured, which was in pretty darn good shape, but it'll probably take me a month or so. Which would lead to Zero tryouts, I think the first ones are May 12,13th? Something like that. I won't be able to throw with my right hand yet, but hopefully my bone will be healed completely so I can run drills and play defense and all that jazz. If it isn't healed then I can't run the risk of falling on it and fucking up the whole surgery. We'll just have to see.

On a seperate note, I posted on RSD to that huge ridiculous thread on Shaner from Wisconsin. I'll stick up for him any day and meant everything I said about his character and all, but I kinda regret spouting off that other shit about "who thinks about laying out, it just happens". I believe I was intoxicated at the time I wrote that, so for all of you out there who think I'm a mongoloid for saying that, I was drunk, that's my excuse. It kind of made sense to me at the time....I think. Anyways, I'm just ready for school to be done with, to graduate and start fresh. My application to the U of M is being reviewed right now and I should hear back within a few weeks, so keep your feathers crossed for me Grey Duck. (That may have been way cheesey but come on, im working on the wittiness). I really hope I get to play with Duck next year, it'd be fun to play on a competetive team. And I can't fucking wait to watch the sectionals finals this year and watch all the regionals games, it's gonna be a blast.

So, yeah, if anyone knows the confirmed sub zero captains for this year can you comment on this with their email addresses? That'd be sweet, thanks.

Fucking snow.

Becky

Ultimate Future?

Well I went back to the doctor last Wednesday and apparently my fracture was worth than they thought. I fractured my scaphoid and the doc. told me that I would have to be in a cast for 3-4 months or I could have surgery and the recovery time could be from 4-6 weeks. So obviously I decided to go with the surgery.

I dont really know what to say, when the doctor told me I kinda broke down, just thinking about how I might not get to play with my team ever again. If everything works out pefectly I could potentially be back right at Sectionals time, but then I wouldn't have thrown a frisbee for about 2 1/2 months, so I don't know how effective I could be. If we make regionals I intend to play there, thats IF everything goes well and I'm healed. Apparently the scaphoid is one of the worst bones in the body to heal due to the lack of blood flow, so they're putting a pin in on Thursday. Then comes the decision to even play this spring or not, I dont want to ruin my ultimate career forever. This also leads to my decision on club, right now I don't know if I'm going to play this summer, I'm just a little nervous about doing something to it again and then having it effect me for the rest of my life. I dunno, right now all this shit sucks, I was looking so forward to this spring season and now it's basically all taken away.

I dont know if I can workout and run after my surgery, or if I have to wait a little bit to do it, we'll see. So, my surgery is on Thursday at 1:30, my first ever surgery so I'm a little nervous, and I hate needles for the life of me so the Anesthesia will not go well. If you wanna leave a good luck comment for me or something I'd appreciate it.

Take care,

David

Life Sucks

So....I had an awful weekend. At SJU indoor in our fourth game I was cutting upline, the throw floated out of bounds, I tried to greatest, got clipped and hit the ground. I then realized I couldn't move my right wrist. I got ice on it right away so I stopped some swelling, but it hurt really bad. I got a ride to the hospital from Quinn later that night, they took x-rays but said it was too swollen to tell if I fractured anything. They put me in a temporary cast (part of it plaster) and said I had to go back in later in the week to get new x-rays. Soooooo, I have my appointment tomorrow morning and hopefully it's just a really bad sprain and no broken bones. Also, I came down with strep...I know, thanks God. I went into the doctor today and apprently I might have mono also...things keep getting better. I've missed class the past two days and I'm not supposed to go tomorrow either, which is great having 5 classes this semester.

I'm just in a terrible/depressed mood, don't wanna deal with anyone right now. The one thing that keeps me sane is now taken away from me.

Randomness

I'm kinda stealing this idea from Kevin Seiler's blog but I don't think he'll mind too much....

1) As the semester progresses I think more and more about the spring season and how excited I am to play with my St. Thomas boys again. The last college tournament I've played in was Hucktoberfest and I really didn't even play a bunch. I look forward to seeing what we can do this year and already we have had great turn out to running/lifting practices which is very exciting. Side note, I ran 2 miles in 12:30 today, I'm going for 2 miles in 12 minutes though.

2) I'm really getting into the band Sigur Ros, if you're looking for something different to listen to that is pretty chill and just pretty this is the band. They're Icelandic, my favorites as of now are Hoppipolla and Staralfur. The song Staralfur is the ending song for the movie The Life Aquatic. Give em' a try.

3) As I get older (granted I'm only 21) I realize more and more that the real world is creeping up on me, kinda makes me nervous. I'm really debating about quitting drinking, drinking in the sense of going out and getting bombed every weekend. It is just kinda losing its' fun and I'm starting to realize that there are more important things that I could be doing. I have 5 classes this semester and I have to do 40 service hours to graduate, so I'm a busy man and I don't need to waste my time going out and getting wasted. Plus, I have to submit my application to the U of M for next year and think about Law School.

4) This weekend is the St. John's indoor tournament, we are bringing only 11 guys, most of whom will be on the A team come spring, so we shall see how we do. I plan on playing maybe 75% of the points if I can do it. Then the next weekend is the open indoor tournament at the YWCA, and I will be playing with Mr. Seiler's team, which I am very excited to do. I just love playing with new people, getting to know new people and learning from new people. I look forward to it.

5) I've come to the realization that I haven't been as good of a Christian as I could be and should be. I still have a personal relationship with God, but I need to do more.

6) I went home this weekend for awhile and watched my little brother's basketball games, I miss that stuff. I need to go home more and see my family more.

7) Ok you need the sound for this and if you don't think this is funny you don't have a soul...http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8922875251875301807&hl=en

8) For winter league on Friday night we play "Naz's team" but we all know that Jimmy Becky Becky runs the show. He's been talking shit so we'll see if they can run with us.

9) If anyone out there wants to chat about ultimate or whatever my AIM address is dbeq22. And that is a Q not a G, some people get that mixed up. I'm not on all the time but when I'm on I usually like talking about something ultimate with whomever I can.

10) It's funny that club tryouts aren't for another 4 months or so but I find myself talking about them alot with different people. Most all the Moes know that I plan on trying out with Zero and I'm not sure how they all feel about it, if they really care or what not, but I don't want any of them to take it personally. I know it'll be good for me either way and I think they're all good enough friends as to where they'll be happy for me in whatever I do. As for my St. Thomas boys, they all know I'm going for Zero but I don't think any of them think I can make it haha. Which is fine, cause I don't even know if I think I can make it or not, only time will tell.

That's all I've got for now I should post again after this weekend.

take care,

David

Winter League/ Duluth Tourney

Last Friday was my first ever winter league game. I've played indoor and everything but not winter league. A few men from Formal Flick (Me, Shawn, Hayword) sported our fancy suit coats during pregame warmups and throw around, I definately think that the Lady Zerks were intimidated. However, they did have a pretty strong team and it was a really fun game. They had Truesdale, Schmelze (sp?) Bri Bri, Andrew W.K for their men and then I wasn't sure who their women were but they did pick up Alicia Morrison, who is quite the player. We had Sam, Me, Shawn, Word, Chris, Jimmy for guys and then Tina, Rachel, Solarz and picked up Liz for the women.

I should have wrote this earlier because I don't really remember how it started, but we were trading points early on, and I could really tell that I hadn't been conditioning enough over break. Later on in the game my legs just felt heavy and slow and I need to eliminate that within the next few weeks. Either way, I didn't play terrible and I didn't play great, I guess it was a fairly solid game. I have to get used to throwing to women again, after practicing with St. Thomas again I kinda lost the touch. I led Rachel too far I think twice, one being in the endzone where she caught it but then dropped it deciding that saving her face from the wall was more important. I can't blame her, she was pretty open and I put it out too far in front. I had one really nice forehand huck maybe 50 yards that was on target but then dropped, and one nice lead pass to Shawn where I think I made him run harder then he wanted too haha. That maybe the fastest I have ever seen him run, but we scored. I really like winter league already, and I love playing with all these new people. Moe people always ask me why I'm not playing with their team and to all of them I say this. I played with you guys for 6 months, I loved it, I had a ton of fun and learned a shit load. So, now I want to play with other people/friends I haven't gotten to play with so I can continue to learn new things and improve my game. I still like you all, you're all still my friends, it's just fun to play with different people. Anyways, we ended up losing the game by one I think, maybe 12-11. Highlight of the game for me was "skying" Bri Bri for a D haha if he reads this he knows what I'm talking about.

Duluth Club
Immediately after my winter league game I went home and Joe A. picked me up and we left for Duluth. We stayed at his mom's place where I created a comfortable bed on the floor with like 9 blankets. Got to the fields the next afternoon for pool play. Moe men aka Cake or Death had...Me, Joe, Jake, Tom, Guy, Pat, Feldman, Moss, Shwa, Crotchy and Delaware. First off we played the Gustavus Alumni team who wore all Daunte Culpepper jerseys. It was a fairly easy game with us winning 13-5 or something like that. Our game plan consisted mostly of either hucking big to Mike/Guy/Feldman/Pat or just letting our speedsters run around and get unders. Then we played St. Cloud Lucky Dog, most were all college players still except for Naz and Tiff. We won this one fairly easily as well but I learned that Naz is faster than I orginally anticipated after he repeatedly ran me around the field. Our final game was against Madison Club, I think most were Hodags, maybe one or two alum and one or two Pimpdags. This was our worst played game, obviously due to better defense and just poor decision making and execution. They played well and ran us around eventually winning 13-11.

That night there was a Dank party, got very drunk, Smurgs wandered around the streets lost and barefooted with marker all over his face, Alicia eventually found him and drove him over to Trosvig's place where he then passed out. Good times.
The next day we played Dingwop in the semis and beat them pretty handily. That was a rough game for me because I am pretty confident that I was still drunk for maybe 3/4 of that game. Running while you're drunk is alot more difficult than I remember, I just felt like everything was bobbing up and down, I'll try to not do that again. Finals we met the Hodags again and won this game 13-8 or so, we played alot better and they didn't play as well as they had the previous day. I felt good this game, it's nice to see how I could compare with some Wisconsin players. I felt I played solid O and could get open on them and be able to get off throws fairly easily. It also helped me realize that I still have alot more conditioning and working out to do before sectionals/regionals/zero tryouts.

Instead of going home I decided to pick up with the St. Cloud team for the college tourney. I won't go in detail on this one but it was Me, Smurgs, Jimmy, Quinn, Naz, Garret and Tiff. We had a pretty solid team there, winning our first two games pretty well and then losing to Winona St in our final game. Next morning we beat Hopkins, then forfeited so they could move on and then we wouldn't have to wait until 2:30 to play. Played Mankato in the consolation and boy did they end up hating us. We tried to make Smurgs score every goal in the game, he scored the first 12 goals then they started putting 4 guys deep on him every time so we gave up and let Tiff score the last one, Hopkins boos then followed. A few guys didn't shake our hands or even look at us after the game, ahh well it was fun. Handling with Quinn and Naz was a blast and I can only hope I get to do it more in the future. After the games we went to McDonalds and apparently its a St. Cloud rookie tradition at this tournament where everyone gives the rookie (Me) all their change and then that rookie has to go across the street and buy a porno magazine with that said change and walk it back across the street....Sooo, I had to do that, and Naz had never done it so he came with. $11.81 in quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies later, Naz and I had ourself a porno magazine with bonus DVD. Which he swiftly kept.

Great weekend, alotta fun, thanks Cloud guys for letting me play with you and for those of you who actually read to here I'll post on my next winter league this weekend.

take care,
David

Titleless

I'll be at my first winter league game tomorrow night with Formal Flick and then my first MLK tournament in Duluth this weekend. Can it really even be called a holiday though? All we're doing is celebrating another day on the calendar and celebrating the survival of our species for another year. But, it is an excuse for everyone to get shit faced, eat lots of food and dance like an idiot. I believe I successfully completed all of those tasks last night. The drinking I dominated at. We started off the night watching Beerfest, which accurately forshadowed the rest of the night. I took like 4 shots in the first hour, then pulled out my breathalizer I got for Christmas from my Dad, and blew a .05. Me and three other friends were having a contest, every hour starting at 9:00 we were gonna take it and see who had the highest at the end of the night. I was tied for the lead after the first hour and steadily took the lead throughout the night. After probably 12 shots of captain, 2 everclear jello shots and a tiny bit of beer I was pretty tanked. I woke up this morning and looked on the white board where we kept the scores and apparently at 2:10 am I blew a .32, now I don't really remember this, but the white board does not lie. I took one this morning also when I woke up and blew a .07, I was pretty pleased with myself.

Then I realized how shitty I felt and remembered why New Years is awesome and sucky at the same time. Monster headache, dehydration, loss of appetite, I just felt like puking all morning. Right now I'm sure all of you are asking yourself, "why am I reading this", if anyone has actually even read this far. But New Years is great, spending time with all your friends, letting loose and having fun. I'm moving back in to my house on Grand Ave. later today so, so long Eden Prairie and hello class at 9:00 am. Happy New Year.

Bequee (I'm experimenting with new name spellings so it's not so girly)

Fuck you snow

Right now it is snowing out. Finally, the last day of the year and we get snow, not like I'm complaining about it because I really do hate snow. What's so fun about it? It's cold, makes it hard to drive, it's cold, skiing and snowboarding are definately not my thing, it's wet and cold. I think the main reason why I hate snow though is because I come to the realization that I'm gonna have to wait awhile before I can play ultimate outside again, which blows. I mean, can't we just hurry up and get this global warming moving a little bit faster? I'm gonna be stuck inside for the next 3 months training inside, throwing, running etc. and running inside always gives me shin splints (I'm a pussy I know my name is Becky). Throwing inside doesn't help me at all either, I know I can throw a forehand and backhand easily indoors. The only thing it's good for is me working on my high release forehand, which will immediately turn to shit once I get outside again.

On a seperate note. I was lucky enough to get to practice with Hopkins high school the other weekend, thanks to Louis for inviting me. It really was a huge eye opener for me. When these kids had to run, they ran and they did not bitch about it one bit. When they had to do plyos and other strength building excercises, they didn't complain or shoot pissed off glances to one another. They just did it, and went along with practice. They listen really well too, if Louis said something to them they would listen and do it. I really wish my college team were more like this, I know it's a different scenario and everything because these high schoolers have a coach who isn't the same age and everything, like I am with UST. But often when I try to get people to do sprints I hear pissing and moaning, or people just sit out because "they're cramping" or "hurt". That shit is frustrating to me, I know it's just college ultimate and I know we're not going to be playing in the regional finals but I just wish everyone would bust their ass and give it their all as long as they're already there. If you don't want to come to practice and do sprints and run, then don't come. I hope I don't sound like a pissed off dictator here, I just want what's best for my team and I don't want people having any regrets come the end of the season. Maybe I just want us to do really well because it's my last year at UST (is that selfish?). I know we have more talent than people think, if our guys just applied themselves more we would have a very very strong team, but I guess you could make that argument for alot of teams
(St. Cloud comes to mind).

Maybe my brain is still kind of in club mode, where I think that everyone wants to win, everyone wants to do sprints, everyone wants to meet somewhere for an extra 30 minutes to throw. I don't know if that mentality works in college, people have classes, people have other friends to hang out with, there is drinking to be done, and people just want to play to have fun and they don't care if we win or lose....I dunno, I've been thinking about this stuff alot lately, I'm excited for winter workouts to begin to see how many guys we'll have coming out to them and to see how much we improve over the course of the winter.

Side Notes
* All I have to do is submit my application and get accepted and I will hopefully be a Grey Duck next year
* Christmas was good, I got a Nintendo Wii and have been continuously hacking Zelda
* Tonight is New Year's Eve....so don't be surprised if you get a drunk dial from me. The past few years have been travishammockerys on this night.
* I go to Las Vegas on Friday with my Dad,Stepmom,Stepsis,Stepbro and older bro and will be there until Monday afternoon. It's gonna be ridiculous.

Pray for Ollie

I'm sure alot of you know the situation with Ollie from Winona St. He collapsed at practice and an ambulance had to come and shock him to get his heart going again. Right now I believe he is in a medicine induced coma because if they wake up him his body temp will be too high for him to survive.

This is a terrible tragedy not just for Ollie, his family and his teammates but for the whole Ultimate community. You never want to hear that something like this has happened to someone you know and have played against, especially at the age of 22. That's like my older brother having a heart attack. wow.

So, I don't know how many people read this or if anyone actually does, but the point is pray for Ollie, his family and his teammates to get through these tough times. I know they'd appreciate it and I know it can only help. I know I pray for him every night, and hopefully he can be back come sectionals where he can huck on me for scores every point like last year.

God be with you and your family Ollie.

David

Stupid St. Thomas girls

Ok I'm gonna go ahead and skip a Nationals post, because if you want to read about how it went you can read the write up on the UPA. I won't have anything intelligent or strategic to say. I had a fucking blast, we won some games, we lost some games, I got wasted with some Sub guys Saturday night, I threw up on a palm tree, Kyle Gill took care of me....ya know a normal weekend in Florida...ANYWAYS

I was in the library yesterday and sitting next to a printer. Some attractive, blonde girl came up to the printer and waited for her paper to come through. She waited and waited for maybe 30 seconds, looked at it and then went and got the tech guy. The whole time she was with him she didn't say a word. The tech guy looked at the printer, took a bunch of paper (which was sitting right next to it) and opened the tray and put the paper in....wow, is it that hard? I see shit like this every day at St. Thomas and it bugs the hell out of me. If she would use common sense, and actually put forth an effort to do something, then maybe the tech guy wouldn't have to waste his time helping princess out...

This is one thing that bothers me about UST, it's a "wealthier" school and more than half the people act like it. It's just like back in high school at Eden Prairie where people acted the same way. If you ask me it's a bunch of bullshit. So, if any UST people are reading this, stop, take a look at yourself and determine whether you're a douchebag or not. I'll give you a hint. If you look in the mirror and your hat is cocked to the side, you have two collars popped and one of them is pink, you're probably a douchebag.

becky out

Flying

Well it's currently 8:07, which means Pat will be here in 38 minutes and from there I'll be on a plane in no more than 2 hours and 28 minutes....
I hate flying.

I have hated flying ever since I was little, and it's not just when I fly either. Whenever someone in my family flies or one of my close friends fly, I get nervous. I find myself saying numerous prayers, and even catching myself checking the news or MSN frequently. It's not fun.

Most people can tell that I'm nervous before a flight, because I get very talkative (seriously more talkative than I normally am). I also fidget with my hands alot, and you'll see me playing with the cross on my necklace also. I don't know if I've ever told anyone this but I have a ritual before I bored a plane. When I am sitting at the terminal I usually say a short prayer while holding my cross, then continue to hold it while I'm in line to board. When I get past the flight attendant, right before I head into that tube thing onto the plane, I always pull the Catholic stunt and throw in a, in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Still holding my cross I always walk by myself down that tube and say a prayer for however long I'm in there.

When I reach the entrance to the plane i throw in another, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit (usually the flight attendants give me an odd look) and I board the plane, where I will sit scared for the next 3 hours or so.

Why should I hate flying? I have had many people try to convince me that I shouldn't be, because "you're getting on a plane which means you're going somewhere fun!" or "you shouldn't worry only 1 plane out of every 137,491 crash" or some crazy shit like that. Whatever, I'm trapped in a giant mettalic object in a tight space, 15,000 feet above the ground and I have no control over anything that happens.....I fucking hate it. Since, I've turned 21 I don't just handle my fear with prayer but also a little boozing. It relaxes me a bit and makes me sleepy, but I don't know how my teammates would feel about me drinking at 10:30 AM.

As you can see this blog is just a way for me to get some of my nervousness out because I have noone to talk to at the moment. But, I need to go get ready now. See you all in Sarasota or back in Minnesota....hopefully. haha

Becky out

Becktologists

Becktology: The study of Becky

T-Minus 2 days

Well it's now only two days until I leave for Florida and Nationals....and I can't focus on a fucking thing. In management today I caught myself doing what I have been doing the past two weeks. I sit there with my group at a round table and listen to our professor drone on about management, and I doodle...doodle doodle doodle. If I were to scan my notebook from each class on to here you all would probably ask "how the fuck is he going to graduate?". It literally says "Moe 2k6, Nationals, Florida, Moe, Sarasota, Beckified" and other ultimate related things.

I have this huge project to do and all I can do is doodle, ah well my group can pick up my slack muahaha.

I have also been reading RSD alot, which is normal, but when I'm reading the 2006 Mixed Nationals Predictions, I catch myself getting really worked up. There have been a few predictions where Moe has lost to Briefcase in pool play and we don't make quarters or prequarters and I really get pissed at this. Then I take a breath and realize that I'm crushing my mouse and kinda relax a bit. I try to think about what all the older more experienced people around me say, and they all kinda say the same thing "win your games and nothing else matters". I like that. Flaming Moe hasn't lost more than 2 games in a single tournament all year and there's no reason that is gonna change now.

I'm so excited, I feel like a kid who is anxiously awaiting his summer vacation to Disney World and I'm sure most of my teammates would say, yeah Becky you are a kid. I'm not just excited to be in Florida and play with some of the best people in the world, but excited to see my teammates who have worked so hard over the past few years to get here, step out on to those dew covered fields Thursday morning and play their hearts out....Briefcase, we're coming for ya and it's gonna be just like semifinals of Regionals.

David out.

MacTommie CUP 2k6

Today St. Thomas had our annual MacTommie cup against Macalester. It's played on this open space of grass in their quad. It's probably been going on for maybe 5 years or so, maybe longer. The B team started out the day and did pretty well I thought, especially for the lack of experience they had. Then the women's game was next and they were playing great from what I saw, then Men's A had to go warm up, I'm not sure what the final was but I know our women won.
So, we started warming up and throwing around and ran two drills both of which looked great. People were making awesome throws, running through their catches, and catching them!! We started out the game pulling and came up with a quick break and continued to do that the rest of the half, and took half 8-0. Man, everyone was just playing awesome, hard D, great throws, good cuts, smart decisions, I was very pleased....
Needless to say we ended up winning the game pretty easily, 15-4?? I felt good, had a few really nice hucks for scores, and one that shoulda been completed. Hit my unders, broke, and actually I got up on a few points...and I can't jump. So, all in all it was a good day, I'm proud of all my boys and we're gonna do well come the spring season.
Now I need to go eat something, because I was bombed last night at Wade and Rita's wedding, it was alotta fun.
Ummm, going out to uptown for a bit tonight, coming back and having the MacTommie party where everyone will be hammered...good times.

Out

Rob's Wedding

I should have said something in my other post, but congratulations to Rob Mooers and Katie Durant (Mooers). They got married October 15th. very nice wedding and fucking dank reception. All us ultimate players basically just got bombed...yeah. Fantasy drinking was played, I was snubbed and not picked at first which is just udderly ridiculous. But later was acquired in free agency. I think I racked up quite a few points...It was fun, lots of dancing, sprained my thumb trying to do that hand plant, the night kinda resulted in me having a crush on someone, which doesn't happen to often. I hope it goes well though.

Side note, Rex Grossman is an asshole, all I needed was 15 fantasy points and I woulda beet the number 1 ranked team...right now he is at -5 points...son of a bitch.

First Shot

So this is my attempt at a blog, I've never done one before and who knows if this will even last. I doubt many people even care about what I say, unless I'm drunk and making a fool of myself. Which could very well happen sometime soon.
Since Moe made nationals I haven't really been able to focus at all on school. I have 4 classes right now, two which pertain to my major and one to my minor. I really have been slacking hardcore in them and should try and pull my shit together, I mean I'm supposed to graduate this spring.
I almost got kicked out of my management group because I missed a meeting due to regionals, and our project is our whole grade in the class...so maybe I should try a little harder.

Inguinil ligament feels great, groin doesn't hurt, knee is doing good....but then last night at Rob Mooers' wedding I got drunk and danced alot, tried to do a hand plant and severely sprained my thumb....on my throwing hand. God I'm an idiot. Only I would get hurt doing something like that.

So nationals is in T-minus 10 days, I'm super excited, we also found out that we're gonna be in a pool with Brass Monkey(1) and Mr. Briefcase(8). At first I was kinda pissed that we had to play Case again, but now I'm glad we play them so we can show every other team there who is the best team from the Central. However it sucks, because we're gonna be without one of our best women in Sam Valesano, she's just too busy with her first year of college. I'm not mad or anything, because I understand where she's coming from. Plus she's already been to high school nationals and played for the Jr. Worlds team.

Anyways, I'm new at this, so hopefully next time it'll be better. Peace.
